APPROVED CONDO UNIT EXTERIOR UPGRADES

SECURITY SCREEN DOOR

Here are some details on the suggested exterior security door upgrade to your condo units. This list does not preclude you from getting the equivalent models from other manufacturers or stores. If you can get all this stuff cheaper from somewhere else, please let me know via email at wcooper1@san.rr.com and I'll post the information. I'll also try and post pictures of all these items soon.

 Security Door

Suggested Manufacturer: Academy Doors

Model: Chateau 6090

Color: White

Width: 36"

Available From: HomeBase

Cost: $109

Optional HomeBase Installation Charge: ~$90

Note: You may also need the following items to go with your security door:

* Lockset & Deadbolt Door Locks

Suggested Manufacturer: EZ-Set or Kwik-Set

Model: Lockset & Deadbolt Combination Set

Color: Brushed Chrome

Available From: HomeBase

Cost:~$15 (Wow!)

Note: You can buy these locks separately but its cheaper to buy them as a combination set. For a few more dollars ($5.50 per lock), HomeBase will re-key the locks to match your existing front door key, so one key fits all. It's well worth it!

* Hexagonal Head Lag Screws

Note: These Hex lag screws (shown left) make it a LOT easier to attach the security door to your existing front door frame, as you don't need to use a screwdriver, just a wrench. The 'one-way' screws (shown right) that come with the door are VERY tough to drive in and impossible to remove!

Number of Lag Screws Required: 8 Screws

Size: Hex head, 3/8" Diameter x 3.5" Long (Labeled as H5 on lag screw head)

Available From: Homebase

Cost: $1.39 each

* Bottom Door Sweep

Note: This sweep is just to keep the bugs from crawling under your security door. Choose the style and size that you think works best with your doormat.

Suggested Manufacturer: Pemko

Description: White Rubber Flexible Seal (could also use brush type)

Size: 36" Length x 2 1/4" Height x 1/4" Width

Available From: HomeBase

Cost: $5-$10

Important Installation Note: You should measure how large of a gap there is between the bottom of your screen door and the floor or doormat to make sure you get the right height sweep. You'll also need some (six to eight) small (3/8" long), self-tapping screws to attach the sweep to the bottom of the security door.

* Security Door White Touchup Spray Paint

Note: These doors start rusting about 1 year after installation so it's a good idea to get a can of the right spray paint now and you can touchup any scratches you find during installation. This paint needs no primer and prevents rust!

Suggested Manufacturer: Hammerite/Krylon 'Rust Tough'

Paint Type: Spray Can 1202

Color: White

Available From: Homebase

Cost: $6.99

SKU#: 615203

* Magnetic Door Catch

Note: This magnetic door catch is to hold your front door open and let the cool breeze in, while the security screen door ensures your privacy and safety.

Type: Magnetic Door Catch

Color: White (if possible, otherwise you have to spray paint it white!)

Available From: Improvements Online Catalog 1-800-634-9484

Cost: $7.99

Item #: 47175
